Read the Bible Together
We believe God speaks through his Word, the Bible. Each week we open the Bible in small groups and public talks to see who Jesus is and why He matters.
We exist to proclaim Jesus Christ at UQ. Read on to learn more about us!
We’re UQ Evangelical Students (UQES): a community of students committed to knowing Jesus and making Him known. We know uni can be both exciting and overwhelming, but we believe Jesus brings clarity, hope, and purpose to it all. That’s why we meet together: to read the Bible, encourage one another, and share the good news of Jesus with our campus.

Uni is better when it’s shared. We connect over meals, socials, and everyday life together— building lifelong friendships that encourage and support each other 🙂
We want the good news of Jesus to be heard across our campus. From running events to simple conversations and invitations, our goal is to share the hope He offers with everyone.
Our group is shaped and led by students, which means uni life and student voices are at the heart of everything we do. At the same time, we’re supported by staff who guide us in reading the Bible, growing in faith, and sharing Jesus on campus. Together, we’re building a community of students leading our mission through partnership with long-term, campus-based AFES staff.
Meet our people
From the Great Court to the lakes to the cafes – we love hanging out at UQ. But even more than the location, we love the people at UQ! We’re keen to love and serve our uni in practical and intentional ways. Our events and activities are open for everyone: Christians and the curious. We think the best way to love our campus is to invite everyone to meet Jesus, who brings freedom and meaning to our lives.
UQ Evangelical Students began in 1930, so we’re one of the oldest clubs on campus. We’re interdenominational, which means the Christians in our group come from a variety of different churches around Brisbane. What’s kept us going for so long, and what unites us together, is our shared love of Jesus, and everything that flows from Him.
Our history
Our group is part of AFES: the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students. AFES is a national community of students discovering Jesus together. All AFES groups across Australia stand on the same biblical foundations, seeking to proclaim Jesus faithfully on every campus. Being part of this wider community means we’re connected to other campus groups, supported by experienced staff, and able to be part of something bigger than ourselves.
