UQ Focus

UQ FOCUS is our group especially for international students.

Welcome!

Hey there! We’re so excited you’ve come to study in Australia.

UQ FOCUS is for international students to make friends and meet Jesus. Everyone is welcome, no matter where you are from, or what you believe.

Our name stands for the Fellowship of Overseas Christian University Students. We’re part of UQ Evangelical Students, but we know being an international student can be extra hard and lonely. We hope that at FOCUS you can find new friends to help support you during your time in Australia.

Get Connected

Thursday Nights

Our main weekly meeting is held on Thursdays, at 6pm, from Week 1 onwards. The session typically runs for about two and a half hours. First, we enjoy a delicious dinner, then we study the Bible together. It’s a great place to learn and ask questions, no matter your background or experience. Meet us in Building 38 (Chaplaincy Building) on the upstairs level.

We hope to meet you soon!

Come along to an event, or get started by following UQ FOCUS on Instagram, or joining our Messenger group chat.

Some students choose just to attend occasionally. Others join several events per week, and some serve in leadership positions. Whatever your capacity, you’re welcome to come along.

Here are

some Qs we get

asked a lot.

Yes! UQ FOCUS is part of UQ Evangelical Students, which is affiliated with the UQ Student Union as an official student group.

Everyone is very welcome – whether you’re from another religion or have no religion. FOCUS is a welcoming safe place to make friends and discover more about Jesus.

That’s okay! We understand the pressures on uni students – exams, assignments, work, and more – but making time to invest in your faith is also important. We run many events each week, on different days and times – some in the day, some in the evening. Hopefully, your timetable works out with ours!

There are also opportunities to connect outside of semesters, at our various conferences. If you can’t make weekly events, we’d still love to meet you at these!

Great question. We know there’s been an increase in cult activity on university campuses. At UQ FOCUS, it’s never acceptable to manipulate or coerce people. Everyone is free to visit, and free to leave. We strive for transparency: we openly name our beliefs, affiliations and leaders, and are affiliated with the UQ Student Union. Our doctrinal basis is standard Christian belief, used throughout Australia, and has been adopted or adapted by many other Christian groups.
